Sign Language
Beginning back in the early 1990's, the Society for Handicapped Children and Adults has offered beginning, intermediate and advanced Sign Language Classes. Staffed by three paid instructors, the Society has taught approximately two thousand five hundred community members to sign. Many of the participants in these classes do not have hearing problems themselves, but have family, friends, or co-workers who must communicate using signing. These classes significantly enhance communication in social and family settings.
Each year, several hundred people learn to sign through a series of classes.
