2010 Ski and Board-a-Thon Breaks Barriers
The 2010 Ski and Board-a-Thon at Dodge Ridge was a huge success. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Marci Boucher, the Ski-a-Thon surpassed last year’s earnings by over $10,000.00 and participant fundraising increased by over $60.00 person! All proceeds from the Ski-a-Thon will benefit the SHCA Winter Ski Unlimited Program; helping persons with disabilities experience the thrill and excitement of skiing!
This year, each of the over 200 skiers, snowboarders, volunteers and clients were treated to an exciting day at Dodge Ridge that included lots of goodies, the exclusive Warren Miller ticket voucher, a full-color event shirt and a delicious lunch provided by the Turlock Rotary club. Participants enjoyed an early start to the morning and most skiers were hitting the slopes by 9am.
Team Winton Ireland lived up to their title as #1 and once again took home top honors! Michael Ireland proudly accepted the “Lord Stanley Cup” for inspiring his team to raise over $18,630.00. Individual winners Kevin Abernathy and Marc O’Neil received deluxe gift baskets courtesy of Frito Lay for their dedicated fundraising efforts.
Sally Helm, owner of Dodge Ridge Ski Resort, was recognized by the SHCA for their continuous support and sponsorship of the Winter Ski Unlimited Program. Volunteer Program Directors, Michael Ireland and Denis Sondeno were also presented with plaques for their dedication and leadership to the program.
Thank you to Pacific Southwest Containers, Winton Ireland Strom & Green Insurance Agency, Dodge Ridge Ski Resort, and Delta Sierra Beverage our valued ski season sponsors. This year’s event sponsors included Lucas Insurance, Borton & Petrini LLP, Frito Lay, Bigler Construction, Sunsports, Doctors Medical Foundation, Kirkes Electric, Mid Valley Water Ski Club, The Wing Stop, Valley Sporting Goods, Fores Macko, ABS Presort, Gowans Printing, Thorsen’s Heating & Air, Tani Landscaping, MJ Hall, Valley Fresh, Associated Feed and P&F Metals. Without the strong support of these community businesses our event would not be possible.
Be sure to hang to your Warren Miller vouchers; this year’s voucher can be used at any showing December 3rd or 4th at the State Theatre! Thanks again to all our participants and volunteers and stay tuned for our next event coming May 17th, our Annual Spring Golf Tournament!
